It happened!

Well I finally was able to get a good workout in last night and it felt GOOD. I started with a one mile run on the treadmill with a time of 8:57. Definitely not the time I was shooting for but when you have been not been running for last couple months, you will lose some ground and I did just that. Although it was not the time I was hoping for, I will take it because we all have to start somewhere. If you are reading this and want to start your journey to become a fitter person or just shed a few pounds be like NIKE says “Just Do It”. Starting and just continuing to workout take as much mental toughness as it does physical toughness. Vince Lombardi said “Mental toughness is essential to success.” So back to the workout, I finished my one mile run just under 9 minutes and gave myself a 5 minute break to lower my heart rate. From there I moved to the squat rack and performed a front and back squat workout of 5 reps each set with adding weight each set. For example I started with 75 lbs and did 5 front squats and 5 back squats for ten reps. I added 10 lbs and worked up to 145 lbs. In all I did 70 reps of squats. After that I moved to knee extension and knee flexion where I did 50 reps each of those. I ended my leg workout with a walking lunge holding 25 lb dumbbell overhead to warm my shoulders up for a shoulder workout. For my shoulder workout I did lateral raises and front raises with a 10 lb plate in each hand followed by 15 lb dumbbell with same movements. I performed 60 reps of each of those movements. I ended my shoulder workout with overhead press starting at 65 lbs reaching 115 lbs adding 10 lbs each set with 8-10 reps each each totaling no more than 60 reps. On the way home my body was wore out. It felt really good to get back into the gym and this morning I am not as sore as expected. Tomorrow may be a different story with a thing called delayed onset muscle soreness or DOMS. My plan this evening is to work all my pull muscles such as pull ups, biceps, lat pull downs and rowing. I am going to leave you with this and not sure if it is a quote or not but something I keep in my mind. “If you don’t start somewhere, you will end up nowhere”.

Day 1 FAIL

Well it was of my best intentions to begin working out again yesterday but had some obstacles in my way. Which I know everyone can relate to have something come up and not able to complete your checklist. My daughter had her end of the year gymnastics program then a storm rolled through town and lastly I gave in to my thorn in my side PIZZA. I may have not been able to complete a full workout or anything to that manner but I did work on my handstand walking to sharpen that skill. I do not think I mentioned it but my 3 year goal is to compete in the Masters division of the CrossFit games. Now I know that is a very high expectation but in my mind (where it all starts) I can meet that goal. The keyword to the statement above is COMPETE not Win, I just want to make it there and be a part of that highly talented community. I have an athletic background which helps out and I only 32 years young. As I am writing this post, I am thinking of what workout I will do today. I am going to attempt a 7 min mile followed by a heavy lift leg session with front squats and box step ups with dumbbells. I will update tomorrow with the amount of weight I used and reps I completed. I hope you enjoy reading this and send me a comment or email. In the meantime, love life my friend!

Workout Day #1

Well today is the first day of my fitness journey to become a fitter person. I have been lazy and just haven’t pushed myself to do many workouts. My plan is to update every day or every other day with my workouts and the food that I have eaten to keep me accountable and hopefully encourage someone else to begin their own journey. I have always like the 21-15-9 workouts but haven’t done many. The 21-15-9 workout are a really good cardiovascular exercise because you are racing against the clock. I will update the blog tomorrow with the workout and time I completed. In the meantime, stay easy and love your neighbors as yourself. Peace✌️

And so it begins…

Hello there. My name is Trapper Denton and I am starting this blog to share my life with you. The name of my blog consist of two things that I hold close to my heart and one that I have a love/hate relationship with. Church has been a part of my life when I was younger and attended with my neighbors growing up until they moved away when I was in the 10th grade. I no longer went to church until my met my wife and started attending again. While going to church with my neighbors, it planted a seed within my heart and I begin to ask questions. At the time, I was around 12-13 years old and it was not long until I went to our neighbors home one afternoon and ask her to help me get saved. It felt like a weight had been taken off my shoulders and I felt free. Fast forward a couple years later and they have moved out of state and I fell out of church and back into the world. I didn’t begin going to church again until my met my wife at college (thankfully I did and more on her later) and my relationship with Jesus was rekindled and started to grow strong again. Fast forward again 14 years later, We have 11 years of marriage and two children, I have been a Sunday school teacher, youth leader, and recently became an ordained deacon. My relationship with Jesus is strong and I try to live for him daily to be a great example for his glory.

The next topic is Family. Growing up I was fortunate to have great parents who pushed me to be the best I could be and never can I remember of them ever discouraging me to chase me dreams. Now that I am a dad to a handsome young man and a beautiful girl, I can’t thank my parents for being a great example for me. My wife and I have been married for 12 years and like I mentioned above, we were blessed to be given the opportunity to raise two children of our own. My wife has been such a blessing in my life because the most important thing she has done was help me get my relationship with Jesus back on track. Being a Christian isn’t always a smooth ride. The world is going to temp you in sooo many ways and that is when you can lean on the Wisdom and strength that the Holy Spirit gives you to overcome those obstacles. To finish up my family, I made a personal vow to myself and Jesus to try to be the best husband and father I can be. Let’s be honest here, I have failed those roles multiple times in terms of not being supportive as I should or just being selfish about things but I’ll never quit or turn from that vow.

Lastly, Fitness. I wish you could see my face when I think about this. Sports have always been a part of my life and I’ll always have that competitive heart to win but working out or improving my fitness has not always been a priority. As I have gotten older( 32 as I write this post) I realize how important your level of fitness is. I work in the field of Physical Therapy as a PTA and see this quite often. I have always been a fan of CrossFit but haven’t worked up enough courage to attempt such workouts. My plan with this blog is to help it hold me accountable to working out and improving my fitness level. I’ll leave you with this quote that I’ll use on my journey to become in better shape. “If it doesn’t challenge you, it will not change you”. So as I embark this journey, I plan to challenge myself both physically and mentally to improve my over well-being. Thank you for reading and looking forward to sharing my life with you!
